Introduction
The issue of children being abused either mentally or physically is causing a problem among our society. If since kids are
being treated this way at such a young age it affects them afterwards and leads to intimidation and trust issues among the
kids! Most professionals agree that in 2014, 500,000 babies born in the US will be sexually abused before they turn 18 if the
abuse is not prevented. This means that child abuse happens all over the world. In Chicago where a 3 year old girl named
Ashley Mendoza who was found dead at her home, the police report said it was because of her injuries caused by child
abuse. According to the ABC 7 Eyewitness News Ashley was found in her home around 8.30 p.m. and the autopsy
revealed that she had died because of her multiple injuries caused by the abuse that she was expose to. When I was 10
years old, I had a similar situation in where one of my family members touched me in a sexual way and since then I haven’t
been the same. This situation cause me to be scared of telling my parents about what was going on, but since then I have
grown as a women and learned to be more independent and not let any circumstance bring me down. This issue matters
because children are suffering and having bad consequences because of the abuse they went through. Because child
abuse is a widespread issue with long term effects on the victims, I believe that more sources to support organizations are
necessary.
